Obey carefully
Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you.Deuteronomy 6:3 (NIV)
It can be so tough to obey Gods calling...especially when it involves a change...a change that you are uncertain of...a change that requires trust. This verse says be careful...what do you think it means by that? To me I think it suggests three things, discernment on what it is we feel lead to obey, the timing in which it is carried out in, and also our attitude in doing it.
Discernment is tough for me, I often find myself second guessing with doubts of qualifications or uncertainty if my actions are correct for a situation...is what I feel led to do from Christ or the enemy?
Timing, you can see various examples in the Bible how humans did and didn't act in God's timing. When they didn't act in God's time, either God used someone else or the person/groups didn't get the outcome of the obedience till many years later. This is so hard for me as well, often, due to unclear discernment. However at times I have noticed with a feeling of urgency a discernment is made clearer.
Attitude I think is also key to obeying carefully...I think of Moses and where he struck the rock for water instead of speaking to it. I think part of this was due to Moses's frustrations with the complaints from the Israelites and part of his uncertainty in the miraculous act. We are to be at peace and confident in our attitudes for Gods fully glory to take effect and be shown. This I struggle with, as I mentioned in the beginning, when I feel I am being asked to undertake a major change
