Love your enemies

Verse for the Day
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor[h] and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies[i] and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. - Matthew 5:44-48

We are called to love and pray for our enemies...what a hard task to do. When I think of the people I don't like the last thing I want to do is love them, and pray for them. Then I think of Jesus, betrayed and beaten, he cried out "forgive them for they know not what they do". As the Roman soliders beat nails into his hands, he prayed for them, and died for them. As Christ followers we are to love people in the same way, and we can because Christ loved us first.
